I filled my boots with my sock covered feet
As the sound of crunching leaves echoed my approach
Trudging up the steps heavily and over the lawn,
I gazed up at the cloud filled sky.
Afraid to call myself, my own, me, my enmity,
The shades of blue and gray and pink
I drank down into my memory’s eye.
My mind perturbed by the day’s events,
Waiting in the shade the shadows I met.
We danced together over winter’s fallen leaves
Slept in the earth’s creases as the seasons slowly passed us by.
We ran across the pure ripples of clear pools of water
And bid each other adieu under the evening sky.
As I stepped down my driveway
In my boots filled with my sock covered feet,
I couldn’t help but wonder why I didn’t turn back,
Hesitating at the driveway’s peak,
I rode the wind home and awake from my dream.
